I’ve got the queues…

Posted by Caliban on 14 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: WoW

And ive not even installed the expansion pack yet.

I am being a good gnome (as good as a gnome can possibly be) and have not installed the xpac yet. I have a test on Monday. Installing the xpac = bad for studying. Thus, my CE (it was delievered, yay!, and even a day early!) is sitting on the table on the other side of the room. The CD is still in it’s case, in it’s shrink wrap. I did open up the box and breathe that new game smell, and look through the art book.

I should pop in the DVD while I’m waiting for this 1084 person queue to go down. (I read a chapter and a half, i’m good for the evening, thanks ;-] ).

So, what does a gnome do whilst not installing the CE? (Or while bored at work, (not that I recommend, endorse, or in ANY way condone playing on work time…*cough*))

He works on Achievements.

Wait a minute Mr. Postman…

Posted by Caliban on 12 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: WoW

So, the servers are down again this morning.

Apparently the Postman decided to take all the mail back.

And GameStop still has my CE as back ordered. I’ll make my decision once I get back from class and check then. I’m pretty sure I won’t be going to any midnight-releases to pick it up.

Speaking of class… *zips off*

Eep!

GameStop is currently listing my Wrath CE order as “backordered” >.<

I’ve got both my previous CE’s from them with no trouble, and didn’t hear of them overselling like some other retailers. I don’t want to miss out on the CE, but neither do i want to end up with two copies by panic-ordering from another site.

Tho I suppose I could always sell the extra copy to a friend or on Ebay…

Moving On Up.

Well, I had a nice long into post written, then my net connection died just as I hit “publish” and it vanished into the ether. My ISP must have a bunch of gnomes … er … troggs, yeah, troggs working for them today.

That should probably have taught me to write these posts in a text editor then paste them in, but here I am typing it into the web interface again. As I said in the first post, this blog is pretty much an experiment. I figure it will let me work on my non-creative writing, as well as get me learning the ins-and-outs of WordPress at the same time, and help with my web design.

First Meetings generally warrant introductions:

About Me

I am a thirty-something geek who is currently going back to school for his master’s degree. I have two cats, a strange sense of humor, and a need to get out of the house more. I like the Muppet Show, Harry Connick Jr, JRR Tokien, Monty Python, Babylon 5, Steven Sondheim, crunchy fall leaves, cheesecake, stormy skies, stormy oceans, and curling up with a good book.

MMORPG stuff

I started out in EQ, and ended up playing a Beastmaster. Then I heard about WoW, and bolstered by recommendations from a close friend, got into that at the start.

My first toon was a NE Rogue, with whom I raided everything from classic WoW. My guild got through MC, BWL and AQ with the exception of never getting C’thun down. We were working on Naxx when TBC broke us up.

When TBC came out, I switched my “main” over to my gnome warlock (and never looked back).

I leveled in a friend’s guild, and was able to get into my current guild shortly after hitting level 70. They were working on Kara and getting into Gruul’s and Mags. I love my guild. Despite being “casual”, only raiding for 3-4 hours 3 nights a week, they got all of TBC up through Illidian done pre-nerf. And they got (Kael and Vashj down pre key-requirement lift).

They are also very nice about me only being able to raid one night a week during the semester, tho it does mean my DKP is low and I didn’t get much out of BT, sadly.

At some point, I leveled my NE Druid to 70, and started running him as an Off Tank. I still feel my Tank-Fu is weak, though the last patch definitely made things easier.

Pet Obsession

I am lucky enough to have both the original and TBC Collector’s Editions (and if GameStop doesn’t short me, I’ll have the Wrath one as well). Somewhere along the line, Caliban, my gnomelock main, developed a pet obsession. Even before patch 3.0.2 gave us the pet tab, I had something like 35 vanity pets in my bank. I usually carried 5-6 with me at a time to pull one out.

Now, the pet tab just makes it that much easier to have an extra pet out all of the time. I have 62 of the standard-game pets. (i.e. none that require code redemption), and none of the BOP engineering pets, since I didn’t want Engineering as a profession. I’m working on the last 20 or so.

Here’s looking to more adorable vanity pets in Wrath!

Hello world!

Posted by Caliban on 11 Nov 2008 | Tagged as: General, WoW

In the grand tradition of programming classes everywhere, I shall leave this post titled “Hello World.”

Just as those simple programs are a foray into a particular programming language, this blog is a foray into … well, blogging. I am not sure I’ll have anything great or important to say or shake the gaming world like some of the other bloggers out there (or heck, even update frequently).

This will be a place, probably mainly for myself, to post things WoW related, to figure stuff out, and to rant.

In the spirt of the simple “Hello World” program, I shall conclude ths post thus:

WoW gneeds more Gnome Druids.
